Three Things

1. Marc is the new Pick Six champion! In a wild week that ended with everyone losing points, his intelligent selections propelled him to the top spot. Well done, Marc!

Marc, aka Mr. Intrigue

Final Standings:

1. Marc: 7

2. Craig & Tim: 5
3. John: 3
4. Tim B.: 0
5. Swetha & Sabreena: -13
6. Monty: -21

2. Last week, I had a soccer essay go up on Run of Play. The site is run by Brian Phillips, an unbelievable writer whose recent Wimbledon pieces are must-reads. A similar version ran in this blog previously, but I took it out once I knew it was going on RoP.

3. My second recap-style piece on Grantland went up yesterday. Give it a gander.

Have a great week!

  1. It's amazing that Monty would have won if he had only skipped a third straight week!

  2. I've never been more proud of myself in my life. This eclipses everything else, charging the beach at Normandy, bringing down the Berlin Wall, blowing the whistle on Enron. None of those accolades compare to this. I'm so awestruck I can't even pretend to make funny jokes.

I'm going to do ten pound curls in front of the mirror while winking at myself. What a wonderful day.

  3. Shane, why doesn't grantland have comments? I'm reading the Game of Throne books (technically "a song of ice and fire" books) based on a friends recommendation. I haven't been into the fantasy genre for a good many years, but it's actually quite good through the first 3. I'm just starting to watch the show and it definitely helps to know who the heck everyone is. i've binged a bit on 5 episodes in 3 days. -John

  4. If the following is a "League of Their Own" allusion, I like your work on Grantland even better than I like SCSD!

"Unlike the Pirate errors, though, Boston's miscues didn't result from distracted players trying to eat the grass."

  5. Speaking of Santiago, I was always amazed that this school out in West Texas always had an abundance of black players, but never seemed to have any Hispanic ones.

  6. So I finished fourth instead of third, but the guy I wanted to win did. So, Mission Accomplished.
